Roger Kay Eggett, Sr. Obituary 2024 - Russon Mortuary & Crematory (2024)

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Roger K. Eggett, Sr., on July 26, 2024, after battling Alzheimer’s and dementia related issues for several years. Roger was a remarkable man who left a beautiful mark on earth and on all whose lives he touched. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Roger’s willingness to work tirelessly, and his determination, resilience and persistence in the face of life’s challenges are the hallmark of the life he lived.

Roger was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 23, 1942. He spent most of his younger years in Bountiful, Utah. While still a young man, he met Beverly Johnson and she quickly became the love of his life. Roger and Beverly were married in Murray, Utah, on July 8, 1961, and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, June 15, 1962. They have been married just over 63 years.

Roger grew up with a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to his family. Some of his proudest achievements were building the two homes where he raised his family, building a family cabin from mostly reclaimed materials from the old Grand Central Garden Center, and helping oversee the construction of the Delta terminal of the SLC airport. The cabin remains the source of countless cherished memories with his family and friends and stands as a testament to his ingenuity, craftsmanship, and the love he poured into his family. Roger completed all facets of these projects from the architecture and blueprints to the excavation, concrete work, rough framing, finish carpentry and final touches. His family and many friends assisted with these projects.

Throughout his professional life, Roger dedicated himself as a Project Engineer at the Salt Lake City Airport. His loyalty, dedication, and brilliant mind made him an invaluable member of the airport community. Colleagues admired his attention to detail and ingenuity. There is a navigational point at the SLC airport named in his honor.

Roger was proud to have served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America for his four sons, all who achieved the Eagle rank. Roger was highly skilled in the outdoors and all things wilderness related. He was a great marksman, loved to fish, and knew the right knot for every need.

Once his 5 children were raised, he retired from the SLC airport and Roger and Beverly served as devoted missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) in Hawaii. Roger selflessly dedicated his time and efforts to serving others, spreading love and joy and compassion to everyone he met. He personally built and oversaw the construction of numerous projects still in use today at the PCC.

One of Roger’s most remarkable achievements was his ability to manage and effectively live with a severe speech impediment he acquired from a traumatic experience as a young boy. Despite this significant challenge, he never allowed it to define him or hold him back. His determination and perseverance are a testament to his strength of character and unwavering spirit.

Roger will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His quiet legacy of love, hard work, and resilience will continue to inspire and guide us.

Roger is survived by his sweetheart Beverly Johnson Eggett. He is also survived by his five children: Roger (Jamie), Rob (Dori), Heidi (Dave), Rich (Tonya), Ryan (Angie), and by his 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Roger’s family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful and loving caregivers, nurses, and aides in the memory care unit of Creekside Senior Living in Bountiful, Utah without whom we never would have been able to manage. A special thanks to Coy, Lejla, Sarah, Julie, and Emilee.

A viewing will be held Thursday, August 1st, 2024, from 11:30-1:15 p.m., at the Oak Hills Ward House, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Memorial services will be held in the same building at 1:30 p.m.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.

Following the memorial services, Roger will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, in Bountiful, on land that Roger’s family owned when he was a boy and where he loved to play and work the family farm.
